Sunday Mornings

Friday, July 1st, 2011

DIRECTIONS

We meet every Sunday at 9:30 & 11:00.  There are two seperate worship services during both hours. There’s a fun and interactive one for children ages kindergarten through 5th grade and as well as the anything but regular worship service for the rest of us. All of this happens at 4020 Ware Neck Drive.

If you can find the Virginia Beach Amphitheater and Sportsplex on Dam Neck, then you can find essential church with ease. From the Amphitheater go west to the first stoplight which is Salem Rd. Turn North on Salem Rd and go about a 1/4 mile and you will see Essential Church on the West side of the street across from Salem Elementary School. We are located on Salem Road between Independence and Dam Neck/Elbow Rd. The physical address for those of you wanting to punch it in on your navigation system is: 4020 Ware Neck Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.

TIME

9:00 & 10:30am: Coffee & Connections – We get started at 9:00 & 10:30 am to give you an opportunity to relax over a cup of coffee and get ready for the worship experience. Make your way over to the essential cafe and allow our staff to serve you a complimentary cup of gourmet coffee. If you have small children, the child care center is open during this time to give you an opportunity to check them in before the service. The coffee & connection time is an essential part of the worship experience giving you time to prepare for the service as well as meet some new people.

9:30 & 11am: Worship Experience & Kid’s Fun Church – There’s a fun and interactive worship service & activity time for children ages Kindergarten through 5th grade as well as the anything but regular worship service for the rest of us. Worship at essential church is a multi-sensory experience. We use a blend of cutting edge videos, music, and creative presentations, incorporating ancient Christian practices such as baptism and communion during the services. Each service is prayed over and designed to give you an opportunity to connect with God in a meaningful way.

WHAT TO EXPECT

SERVICE: Applicable, fun, laid-back. We’ll have great coffee and some morning munchies available for you – for free! The service is about an hour long with a relevant, engaging talk that can help your everyday life.

MUSIC: It’s great! Our band plays stuff you listen to on your iPod. They also try really hard to help you see God more clearly through music. Some of our guys regularly play around the Virginia Beach area, but they clean-up well on Sundays.

BELIEFS: One of our core values is “salvation over denomination.” We are focused more on the essentials of the Christian faith than the things that tend to divide people along denominational lines. Simply stated, we believe Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and the Bible is God’s chosen means of revealing Himself to us. See Our Beliefs page for more information.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What should I expect at essential church?
Our services last for about an hour.  Our live band plays 3-4 songs each week and the words will be on the big screens so feel free to worship, sing, or read along and enjoy the music.  Please know that we will never single you out, or embarrass you in any way.  We want you to feel comfortable enough to connect with the personal hope and practical help that God offers us.

What about my kids?
We know that as a parent you to need be sure that your children are in a SAFE, fun environment. During our Sunday service, we offer age appropriate care and programs for infants through fifth grade.  All of our nursery workers are screened, so you can be assured your children will receive the highest level of care.  One word of caution though, they’ll be begging you to go to church every Sunday after their first visit!

What should I wear?
We’re more concerned with meeting your real life needs than with what you wear.  So, dress casually and you’ll fit right in.

Christmas Eve Service

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

It’s our first Christmas in the building and we’re pulling out all the stops. Christmas is on a Saturday this year so we’re moving our Sunday services (Dec. 26th) to Christmas Eve so we can celebrate in a big way.

We will have three services on December 24th at 4:30 pm, 6:30 pm, and 8:30 pm. Childcare will be provided for babies through 5 year olds during our 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm services. No childcare will be available during the 8:30 pm service.

Bring yourself and everyone you know to one of our Christmas Eve services and it’s guaranteed to be a day to remember!

Current Series: iTune (out/in)

Friday, March 27th, 2009

itune-web

Why is it whenever someone sees you listening to your iPod they ask you, “Who are you listening to?” In that moment I always feel like I am being judged. I guess that’s because who we listen makes a statement about who we are.  In life, we find that what and who you listen to will influence what you do. When making decisions that impact the direction of your life, who are you listening to? I know in my experiences I tune out certain people and I tune in to what other people are saying.  In this two week series we will be looking how some people in the Bible answered this important question, “Who are you listening to?”

On the second week of the series (April 5, 2009) we will be giving away an iPod Touch.  (Click here to register to win)
