New Bible Study Begins

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Duty or Delight? Knowing where you stand with God – This Bible study for women focuses on six foundational truths found in Ephesians 1:3-23.  Tammy speaks to participants about the struggles and spiritual insecurities that women face in their Christian walk due to the unmet needs from earthly relationships.  She teaches us how to experience God’s delight in our lives and gives us insight on how to overcome the challenges of duty based living.

Summer Fun

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

What are you doing this summer? Would you like some company from women who share your interests? We are trying to connect likeminded women for some summer fun. Several categories and life stages come to mind:  moms of babies, moms of toddlers, single moms, women interested in joining a book club, women who would like to beach it together, women who like to run, women who like to work out, women who garden, women who like to scrapbook or do crafts, etc.

If you would like to informally organize something, just give us the info so we can publicize it here. For example:Mom’s and Toddlers Beach Day, Thursdays at the Oceanfront, near the King Neptune statue, 10am to noon, pack snacks and beach gear. “  (Yeah, don’t show up on Thursday…this is just an example!)

The Strawberry Festival Parade

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011
Our group arrived early to decorate the truck and trailer for the parade on May 28, 2011. This was our 3rd time to be in the parade.

Pastor Bobby and Sarah staple bags of candy to Essential cards to give away to the crowd.

Melissa smiles while also trying to corral her three youngsters and keep cool in the 85 degree weather.

Adam, Justin and Joe tune up their guitars.

J-man looks around for his guitar.

Bedecked in flags, balloons and crepe paper splendor.

Stephanie and Baby M are ready to roll.

It was a hot day. Water bottles and head bands were the appropriate accessories.

Yeah, he’s cool.
The final touches go on the truck.

Wagons are in position.
Drew keeps an eye on the wigglers in the truck bed

Big A helps Papa Joe with his ukulele.

Sarah and Stephanie–perhaps wondering if we can pull it all together.

Stephanie and Melissa ready to go.

Drew gives some much needed support with tired kids.

The Group Shot. We did it!
Now down the street to the waiting audience. Here we goooo!

"My Ordinary, His Extraordinary" Women’s Event

Friday, June 10th, 2011
Crystal and her team are setting up the room for our first big women’s event held on Friday, May 20. We sold over 100 tickets for the event and we were thrilled at the huge response.

The banner on the back wall of the auditorium read, “Everyday Extraordinary”.

Looking down on one of the cute table settings from up on the ladder.
Back down on the floor, the whole room looked Springtime festive.

Each table had its own cheerful color scheme.

The stage was lit with fresh tulips.
Flowers everywhere! Such a great setting for a great night.

Here Becky Vasquez leads us in an incredible time of worship. Justin and some of the other guys filled out the worship band, in exchange for free dinner. We all enjoyed this beautiful time of reflection.

You can almost hear the voices singing.

Our guest speaker, Polly Boyette, was hilarious. She told us one funny story after another, all of which expressed her message that God can use any ordinary woman to do extraordinary things for Him.

Polly’s anchor verse for her message was:
Romans 12:1
 Take your everyday, ordinary life—
your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—
and place it before God as an offering.
It was an inspiring and encouraging evening for all of us.

Pastor’s Notes (5-24)

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011
  • Here’s my notes from the Q&A this past week.  The questions we looked at this past week were: What about the guy on a desert island whose never heard about Jesus, how can he become a Christian?  Is it ok to be cremated?  Can a person who committed suicide go to heaven?  Is killing someone in war different than murder?  If our sins are forgiven, does it matter how we live and is God going to replay all that we have done at the final judgment?
  • Looking forward to this weekend: Pungo Parade & Memorial Day Weekend Cookout on Sunday.  My kids always love any event that includes the bounce house!!!
  • The women’s event last weekend was amazing.  Heard lots of good things.  I’m hoping to get a picture of the way they decorated everything.  They did an amazing transformation on the worship center.
  • My favorite pics from the end of the world thing:
  • Here is the mother’s day video from last week.

I am so excited to announce that Essential Student Ministries will be going to Knoxville, TN from July 24th – July 30th to participate in Operation Backyard.

Operation Backyard provides free home repair services for low-income homeowners. Youth teams with adult supervision provide work, so everyone benefits. While we are in Knoxville working with Operations Backyard (901 East Summit Hill Drive | Knoxville TN 37915| Phone: 865-524-2774), we will be spending our nights sleeping at Central United Methodist Church in Knoxville (201 East Third Avenue | Knoxville, Tennessee 37917| Phone (865) 524-1659). The church has one floor of bunks for boys and one floor of bunks for girls. They also have a fully functioning and stocked kitchen where we will prepare our meals.

We will have two women chaperones (Jaime Borland and Rachel Yurko) and two Men chaperones (Pastor Bobby Brown and Mark Patton). We will also have one additional chaperone that is responsible for shopping for and preparing our food.

Memorial Day Weekend

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Saturday: Pungo Strawberry Fest Parade

What’s better than going to a parade?  Being in the parade!!! For the past two years Essential Church has had a float in the Pungo Strawberry Fest Parade.  We put our band on a flatbed trailer and crank out a sample of the amazing talent you get to hear every weekend.  Since we can’t throw candy, we need you to join us in the parade and hand out candy that has a note about our church attached to it.  It’s a lot of fun and the perfect event for all ages. You can bring strollers, wagons, or tricycle for the kids.

We’ll gather out at the Coast Guard Communication Complex between 8-9:30 to prep the float and get things ready.  It’s one of the best events of the year.

Sunday: Memorial Day Picnic

After church on Sunday morning we’ll have a BBQ with hamburgers and hot dogs out in the field in front of our building.  We’ll have tents and tables for eating, bounce house for the kids, volleyball, corn-hole, and kickball.  Bring some sunscreen and a side dish or dessert to share and enjoy a fun afternoon.  This is the perfect day to invite a friend to come to church and then meet some new friends.

*If you have an Easy Up that we can use please let us know so we can plan for it’s use.

There are Service Opportunities with this event.

We still need volunteers to run the Bounce House, Work the grills, and take care of the food and drink tables. We would also love to have a few volunteers attend first service and help setup during second service. If you can help with one of these areas, please let us know ASAP so we can continue to plan the event. Click Here to Let Us Know
